After storming the charts with his latest releases RAW ARTISTIC SOUL continues the string of impressing productions on GOGO Music with this superb outing titled “Oya O” featuring Wunmi on vocals. Studio wizard Phil Kullmann’s "Main Mix" is an absolutely outstanding afro beat track, with lush grooves and magical musicianship, while his “Reprise” has this classical "Nawella" vibe. Phil once again lives up to his reputation as one of Germany’s most upfront house producers, with enormous talent to transform traditional grooves to the dancefloor of the 21st century. His willingness to push boundaries with each new production make RAW ARTISTIC SOUL one of the most exciting projects in the scene.

On the remix tip no one less than celebrated New York’s up- and coming House-Don Alix Alvarez, who delivers a pumping rework. He’s adding some spice with driving beats and cool sub-baseline to his mix. Also included on the 12” is his fierce “Bonus Beat”. „Oya O“ heavily increases the tention for the upcoming RAW ARTISTIC SOUL album „You Got Rhythm Too“ to be released in Spring 2007. This exceptional GOGO Music single is already heavily supported by various tastemakers like Kenny Dope, Mr V, Frank Roger or Aaron Ross, who dropped the tune on BBC 1 immideatelly after he received a unmastered mp3 of it. Surely one not to be missed and staying for long!

Pick of the week!
"Oya O" is taken from the forthcoming longplayer "You got rhythm too" (to be released in spring 2007) and stays in the tradition of outstanding musicianship from mastermind Phil Kullmann and his Raw Artistic Soul ensemble, making you want for more of their beautiful music. Phil's main mix is a wonderful smooth yet resistless afro house track featuring an incredible yoruban vocal performance by Wunmi, with a brilliant saxophone solo (there is also a digital download only 'Alternative Main Mix' that replaces the saxopohone with a marvellous flute). His reprise is a mellow affair perfect for chilling, while the digital download only 'Afro Dub' gives it a deeper, more laidback afro house feeling. The remixes are courtesy of Alix Alvarez who spices things up on his rework using phat beats and an added ultra-deep bassline. German leftfield house label GOGO has been pleasing us with a couple of great 12"s lately, and this edition is welcome as well. This time Phil Kullman teamed up with the famed voice of Wunmi. There's 7 (!) different versions of "Oya O", so let's have a closer look ...
The 12" has 4 versions. The original is balancing very well between afrobeat and house. Percussion, horns, the vocals, it's all there. The Reprise is a short, beatless version, with just the essence. On the flipside you get the Alix Alvarez remix and beats. Here, obviously, the balance is sliding to the house side, but not too far though. This could very well have been a Masters At Work production. Nice! And then there's 3 download-only versions: an afro dub, an alternative main mix and the Alix Alvarez instrumental. by Lensco
